Before Assessment

Hey! I'm 45 and I think I may have Aspergers. I really want an assessment, but it's a lot of money and I'm a student right now (or trying to be with corona). Does anyone have any advice of people/places I could go to maybe find out a little more about it (and the likelihood I have it) before spending money I don't directly have on an assessment (currently 18 month wait on the NHS).

  • Thank you all so much for reading and responding. I think I'm in a similar spot to some of you. I'm waiting for my assessment right now having been referred by my GP following the basic tests they do. It's an 18 months minimum wait currently. I actually went through very similar steps to @aidie (nice diagram!) and now on the final wait.

I've taken the tests linked here and many similar and usually get 50/50 (asq) or we advise contacting bla for blabla (RAADS-R), which is why (as well as having lived a lifetime as me) I'm seeking assessment. I don't know why I still doubt. I guess this is all more of a push in the right direction.

  • Hi Jon, similar here... Hampshire-based, mid-forties, referred by GP 10 months ago. TBH I'm suspecting that, with covid, the wait time first estimated as 2 years may well now be 3+... :(  Self understanding is important!!
