Before Assessment

Hey! I'm 45 and I think I may have Aspergers. I really want an assessment, but it's a lot of money and I'm a student right now (or trying to be with corona). Does anyone have any advice of people/places I could go to maybe find out a little more about it (and the likelihood I have it) before spending money I don't directly have on an assessment (currently 18 month wait on the NHS).

  • Hi Jon,

I got diagnosed at aged 23 and did not have to pay, yes i did have a wait but it was well worth it. I started off with the GP and yes following @aidie advice making a list of reasons why i have it and the difficulties you are having. Then the GP transferred me to the Neurological centre and i had a test there. My father also came and this helped things because he could identify my differences and he also recognised the traits in himself for the first time.

Best wishes Jon, I hope you can gain clarity and get a diagnosis

  • that was very nice of your dad
