Private diagnosis

Hello

I am a 31 year old female and I have suspected for a while that I may be autistic.

Ive decided to try and pursue a diagnosis this year for various reasons however I’m finding it difficult to get an “average” price for private assessment.

Currently the lowest quote I have is £2k, has anyone had experience of paying privately and would be able to give me an idea of the costs involved?

Thanks in advance

  • Yes Harley St Psychiatrists. Dr De Waal. (Consultant Psychiatrist). Assessment via Skype. Used on recommendation and would recommend.

  • They are all female psychological specialists so likely helpful for females, but commercial online so have the extra earning requirements and have a financial focus. Sounds expensive to me. Hourly rates of ?? £400 plus

  • Yes! Try these very helpful people. I paid £1770 for a full developmental report but you dont have to pay that much. And the initial assessment is free

  • Hello

I have just had my 17 year old daughter diagnosed through a private clinic based in St. Albans, Hertfordshire. The assessment cost £2,200 including ADHD clinical interview and assessment. The assessment was comprised of four elements: the completion of forms and reports by us as parents, by our daughter and by her school, a two-hour interview with parents to get full developmental background, a two-hour interview and interactive tests with our daughter and a feedback session for us all followed by a 19 page report. It was excellent. We had applied for my daughter to be assessed through the NHS with our GPs backing but being told that we could wait up to 2 years for this was unacceptable. This is best 2 grand that I have ever spent.

    Best wishes

  • I called today to ask about my referal, and I'm still on a waiting list, shoiuldn't be that long, no specifics ;/

  • I was diagnosed with autism last year privately through the autistic society have a look or call see if they can help as I can’t remember how much it was

  • scam is spreading like a disease recently, especially on internet, be that because they want to cheat you on money or because they're simply ignorant while their job is to put info online about their company, but I noticed increased amount of false and misleading information online, it invaded  even wikipedia. only gov websites remain free of it, but info their is often incomplete because of propaganda they propagate, often it looks like someone copied 1/3 from that website, 1/3 from another, concocted last bit and that is on their website, except together it doesn't make any sense, butto notice it you need some knwoledge about topic, and science people do not visit random websites, so it goes by and spreads, some new website compies part of it and so on.

  •  who was the Dr who diagnosed you ?

  • Sadly the company I work with don't have company health insurance. Thanks for the info & warning about scams.

  •  I was surprised at how few people seem to be doing assessments at the moment. Thanks for this info.

  • Thank you, do you mind telling me which company you used? & was it online or in person? Thanks.

  • If you're working, do you have company health insurance?    We spoke to my company's insurer and they agreed to pay for my diagnosis - it was then just a case of finding the top people in the area and seeing if they are on the approved list from the insurer and then getting your gp to refer - I was done and dusted in a couple of weeks.

You need to make sure you are getting a full diagnosis that will be accepted as proof of your condition to the NHS, DWP etc. - a *proper* diagnosis.     Talk to the companies about what exactly they will provide.   As you can see from the other replies - you need to make sure you;re getting what you think you need - some are scammers who will just print out the on-line tests and fleece you to mark them for you - that is worthless..

  • I think covid may have increased prices because some psychologists are refusing to doassessments at this time.  I know the one who assessed and diagnosed me, whose price was in the region of £1000 four years ago is not doing them at the moment.

  • Diagnosis using ICD—10 and correct classification with scores for each sub section and how this compares to thresholds.
