To disabled for friendship ?

So I was on a  group on Facebook and I was talking to someone about trains because we shared the same interests in trains. Because of my disabilities, I was slow on replying and not saying much, Then I explained to the person that I had multiple disabilities, She asked what they were, (I'm ok with talking about them btw). I listed all of them and then she said, "Sorry to bother you". I wasn't sure what she meant and then she said, "Your to disabled and deserve better". I wasn't sure on how to respond to that comment and then she blocked me on Facebook.

What just happened?

  • The compassionate side of me will say that that the label "autism" as well as other "disabilities" provokes fear in others this leads to prejudice, mistrust, hostility and a whole bunch to other negative feelings. Typically they do not know how to cope with these thoughts very well and want to avoid situations that may lead to them. Avoidance is a very well know behaviour mechanism.

Please remember that fear in others is not your problem but theirs. If they block themselves off there is nothing you can do to help them? But perhaps hope that this person can come to terms with their feelings?
