Is temperature sensitivity a thing?

I'm not officially diagnosed with ASD, but I've been trying to get some notes together before I brave the trip to the doctor about this. And I was wondering if this is something I should include and whether it sounds like something any of you have experienced.

I react badly to different temperatures. If I get too hot I start feeling ill. It can be anything from getting incredibly itchy skin, either wide spread or localised (always worse if I'm wearing any remotely tight clothing) to feeling really dizzy or sick or getting migraines. Hot temperatures feel exhausting and suffocating to me. But I'm no good in cold either. If I get too cold - and this can be at temperatures where people I'm with won't even think its cold - my joints start to feel stiff and sore, my muscles ache and get cramps or just go numb, I get headaches and feel very tired.

I don't know if this could be an ASD thing or not, and I'm worried enough about the GP taking this seriously without panicking that I might mentions unconnected things which wouldn't be useful.

Anyone else get this?

  • Thanks, thats good to know.

  • Sorry you get this too, but reassuring to know its not just me. Good idea to keep track of things, thanks.

  • That link is interesting, thanks for that.

  • Yes, I've read in a few autism books that this is definitely a thing.

  • temperature sensitivity, afaic, is definitely a thing.. i think it can be part of or coexist with asd... when i was young, tho, i was sort of oblivious. but i think asd can be hypo, hyper or none of the above in regards to sensitivities... also, it seems to change with age. so - now. i have an assortment of fleece, knit caps, half gloves, neck warmers that i wear, and take off or on as needed... but it seems i really do need them. i DO have the aches and pains you express in your text, during winter.... idk what that means. i'm adjusting my temperature range to conditions, pretty often, as required... as a two year in diagnostee, i feel i have every sensitivity in the book. i guess you could keep a diary of things... they're hard to track, and new ones may turn up!
