Living on my own, exhausted by end of week, having to drop some of my usual activities

I live on my own, but get support 15 hours a week from social services. I enjoy living on my own, but it is  exhausting, and I stay with my parents at the weekends.

By Friday I can't leave the house because I feel so tired. I get anxious about going to bed on my own, so stay up too late and then I oversleep. I used to volunteer at Barnados on Fridays, but can't do this anymore. Now I can only manage volunteering at Age Uk and my part-time working from home job.

Is it normal for someone with AS to find living on their own so tiring?

  • It maybe the amount of stress Hormones you are producing overall in your body, catching up and building up within you and having a long-term stress and anxiety.  15 hours social services, part-time charity working, going to your parents home etc. So I tend to look at these things as a stress level management. Keep it simple. Find places that work for you.

  • I get exhausted and am tired all the time, Hope.

This could be because I also have Crohn's Disease (a chronic inflammatory bowel condition), as it is a common symptom of that, however I have heard that chronic exhaustion and tiredness is common amongst people on the Spectrum too.

I believe the theory is that this because we have to expend additional energy to intellectually process social situations and other environmental stimulii.

I probably have the double whammy.

  • I think its fairly normal for people who work to be tired by Friday.

Also the winter is more tiring, we tense up in the cold.

And some people have a natural instinct to hibernate in winter,

seems very sensible to avoid the cold and dark by sleeping more.
