Housing for Adults with Aspergers

Is there any help in the Northampton area for adults with Aspergers to assist with finding appropriate Housing.  My son is 30 and lives at home and needs his own space.  My daughter, her boyfriend and son have moved back home and it's really stressing him out as having so many people disturbs his routine.  He doesn't get on with his sister.  Any help would be appreciated

  • It really does depends where he is on the autism spectrum and any commodities he might have ?

If he verbal and has above average intelligence their is pretty little out there to support him during the process but it really does  depends on your local authority, social services and support services available. I am on the spectrum myself and still live with my parents and my sister, her partner and their daughter who moved back home over six years ago. my bedroom/living space is in a static home next to the house but i do have to enter the main property to use toilet and kitchen facilities that may be a solution, despite having my own space my family disturb my routine quite regularly to dysfunction and i have been looking for support to make the leap of moving out which has been difficult.

to be honest with you your daughter, her boyfriend and their son have more chance of being rehoused or gaining points on the housing register than your autistic son would be. is this something you autistic son want to do and is he ready to make the leap, I'm twenty four but i do understand that my autism and attention deficit disorder makes my mental age around the age of sixteen and i am considered to be relative functional.

I would contact social services if your son want to move out and possible contact the National Autism Society to see if their is a community shared premises for autistic individuals or assisted housing but these are usually reserved for the lesser functional individuals. If your son is unemployed i would ask work coach to signpost you to service employment, housing and support service but its a postcode lottery on what available.
