  • I have OCD and a fear of illness/hypochondria, constant OCD related anxiety and foreboding.

I have always been anxious, for as long as I can remember. My obsessions have always been based around the need for perfection, impossible I know, but ever present.

As a small child I would often repeat 'does it matter if I touched it?', and I remember repeating 'my pony tail, my pony tail' incessantly while with my Mum in a grocery store. I was worried that my hair was not perfectly done up.

My OCD , however, properly took off when I was 7-8 years old, revolving around dirt and contamination. When walking to school I was convinced that dog dirt had touched my socks and that I would go blind, after hearing someone tell me about dog dirt and disease. I got obsessed with dirt on my hands, like clay or paint, becoming convinced that I had accidentally eaten some. I also went through a phase of folding my hands all the time, convinced that dirt could somehow travel through the air and onto my hands, from the ground. My hands were always tightly clenched and I became obsessed with washing them until they were sore.

My 7th birthday was blighted by worrying that I had 'messed up' some plastercine I had got for a present. I wanted it to go back to being perfect, as it was before I opened it. I obsessed about it all day.

My OCD cleared up for a few years after starting secondary school, coming in waves. It returned with a vengeance when I was 14, along with other phobias. I have always been scared of dogs and thunderstorms. And if I hear a bad story in the news, I become convinced that it could happen to me. I also worry about getting seriously ill.

I was diagnosed with OCD aged 19, although my obsessive problems were first flagged up by an educational psychologist when I was 10.

I was diagnosed with Aspergers aged 21.

The OCD is far more disabling than my Aspergers, but the two conditions often intersect. I have also had extreme interests too, which have been enjoyable. I am a very obsessive person.
