Excited - for a change!

Hi there All!

I rarely feel excited, I rarely feel anything but I have something planned today.

I like birds and related activities and I found out there was a local RSPB group near where I live so I emailed the organiser and told him I would like to be part of a group like that but am autistic and don't cope well with social situations.

He was really nice when he emailed back and told me what would happen at the meetings, about outings they have and told me to go along and ask for him tonight and he would make sure I was ok. I think he must have some experience of people on the autism spectrum.

So... I am going out tonight to a meeting with people who like birds like me and although I am nervous I also feel excited that this could begin a new chapter in my life and if all goes well it will boost my confidence. If it doesn't go well, then I don't know but I'm not thinking about that.

So wish me luck for this evening!  I'll let you know how it goes.

  • Thanks crystal12 - I am pleased to say it went really well. The people were helpful and let me be myself which meant I coped better than usual. The talk and slideshow were brilliant and it was good to chat with people who seem to be equally obsessed with birds and natural history as I am.

This is a huge step forward for me and I think this group will be  a big part of my future.

I am autisitic and I have a social life - makes me smile just thinking that.
