Not understanding NT communication

I'm not trying to offend anyone. I know there are exceptions and I guess it's just me not understanding from my autistic perspective but I often wonder why NTs value superficial conversations so much. They say we are not social when in fact most autistic people are very loyal and honest to friends and try to talk about meaningful things that convey real information. When I told a colleague of mine that I miss a person who has recently left her job, her reaction was "yes but this is how life is, people move on" when I can clearly remember she enjoyed talking to her so much. I had a good friend at a previous job and when I mentioned that I miss her, people thought it was odd that I cared. I don't get it why they invest so much time into talking about the weather, fashion, celebrities, sports, politics etc if they don't care to keep those people in their lives. That's a lot of effort for nothing long-term, isn't it?

  • I find it too. NT can chat endlessly without actually saying anything.

I guess she fake liked the colleague. I dont understand that either. You can get along with people without pretending to be their friend.

I was watching neighbours chat effortlessly the other day, I so wanted to join in but I'm at the point in my life of giving up.
