CFS/ME - rhythms of the day & autism

does anybody here have chronic fatigue? how does your day go? i usually get very tired at multiple points in the day and my brain begins to shut down meaning i can't make decisions or problem solve etc or barely speak. i didn't really take this into consideration before now, about the rhythms of the day and using different times for different things. and pacing myself. for instance, when i want to be able to work out in the morning, pacing it into chunks throughout the day... what are you experiences with the rhythms of the day and autism?

  • Hi - Sorry to hear of your CFS - it's a real bummer.

How do you manage?   Are you able to function?   Can you work?

I had a brain injury in 2013 and it's left me with CFS and chronic pain too - my life is a little complicated but my Asperger's gives me the organisational skills to power through and push forward where others would probably crumple up on the sofa and give up.

I have ulcerative colitis so that gets me up in the night and early in the morning - up before 5am most days.    On waking up, the pain hits (the meds have worn off during the night) so it's like I've fallen down 10 flights of stairs - everything hurts.      Think banging your knee on a coffee table - all over.

My day has started - clock is running.

I take all my pills (Steroids, Tramadol, Naproxen, Paracetamol etc.) and watch early tv until my body stabilises - around 9am.     I've then got maybe 3 useful hours to do something - depending on how much energy it takes.   Probably in short bursts with a sit downs between.

After lunch, I feel really sick because of the colitis - think the worst seasickness ever - massive cramping and nausea.

That all stabilises by about 2pm so if I've not overdone the morning, I might do something easy in the afternoon - or I crash out on the sofa.   I 'blink' and it's 6 hours later.

Now I'm on a time crunch to eat something small to be able to stabilise my body before falling asleep again.

    Rinse & repeat every day.

If I overdo things, I sleep longer.    Much longer.    I can lose days at a time.
