Any remote workers / freelancers on here?

Hello

Like many people, I'm experiencing some "income disruption"... I know I'm good at what I do and have in-demand skills (instructional design) but marketing really isn't my forte and relying only on referrals is too precarious. I would love to know whether anyone else creates their income whilst working 100% (or mostly) remotely. How do you get work? Have you any experience of using freelance marketplaces like upwork, fiverr, worksome, peopleperhour etc? What works/doesn't for you?

many thanks in advance

Daisy

PS I'm a freelancer (set up as a limited company with me as the only employee/director) so I don't qualify for any of the government support for small businesses during covid. I live alone and don't qualify for any disability benefits despite formally diagnosed with ASD, so I need to find a solution.

  • I tried freelance writing after being laid off shortly after COVID (the courthouses closed and I was a legal transcriptionist from home).  Like you, relying on returning clients wasn't a stable option and I had to return to transcribing.  I did very well on Freelancer and UpWork, which are similar to Fiverr.  LinkedIn/LinkedIn Premium is a great place to network and get your name and business out there.  Flexjobs is another good place.
