I think private do tend to be better but it varies. 

Private rent also comes with issues. We're in a place that looked quiet and a nice neighbourhood. Unfortunately it's not, theres alot of drug a activity, nightmare neighbours, bullying etc

Hmmmm usually the LHA is reasonably representative of current rental prices and it’s just gone up too - so where I am rent is 650 (which isn’t the cheapest flat available nor the most expensive) and the LHA covers it all 

The LHA in my area doesn't seem that high, I've checked. I think it's because many towns in this borough are poorer than the one I'm in. However my mother lives here and I feel safer here. So it does look like I might have to spend another £100 to £200 on top of the LHA to get somewhere I feel okay in.

Find out what the LHA is for the area you are in - generally it’s quite fair, you won’t get a palace but I get 100 percent of mine covered and it’s decent enough. LHA varies area to area. I assume you are over 35? If so you get a bit more. 

Looks like I should look for private accomodation. I just feel so depressed. I might have to spend more money if I want somewhere private that's decent, as I'm aware there are rubbish places on the private market too. I had a girlfriend in this town who lived in one of the cheap rented places and she had a neighbour there who shouted and screamed at her daughter every day.

Didn't think I would find myself in my early thirties feeling so scared financially and for my future.

Certainly seems like you want less contact with neighbours who complain, so any other options.  A motor home for full time living is very difficult as can’t have much stuff and repairs required. What about a residential caravan?

Private renting gives you greater choices compared to council/ housing association. 

I feel for you.

I have lived in various rented accommodation for decades, and door slamming and loud noise problems are very common.

My advice is also move.

Many problems with door slamming are people with poor social skills who are unable to communicate the fact that someone else is upsetting them with their noises.
