Struggling to remember words I just learned

Anyone else get that?

I've been reading a novel and learned about 10 new words today and I can only recall what one of the words was, even though I looked each one up in a dictionary.

  • Yeah this happens to me... only I usually mean to look them up, then when it comes to it i cant remember what it was! I dont think you actually learn a new word really until you have used it. That's why no one can remember one word of French they learn at school cos they never actually meet a French speaker to speak it with. 

    Also I go blank on certain words or names randomly. Then it will come back to me hours later. But I think that's just me getting old.
