Getting Exercise in Lockdown

I take a daily walk in my local area with my dogs.  I drive to a quiet area and walk.  On most normal days I might pass a maximum of 6 people.  I am comfortable and feel safe in the area.  However, I was stopped by police and told to return home.  I went into meltdown and my husband tried to explain our circumstances.  He insisted that to go home was government advice and he was sdvising us to go home.  I shutdown for nearly two days and despite trying to find out what is classed as my local area from the government website, police, and others, I am getting no further.  My stress levels are sky high, I am taking oxazypam to calm my anxiety, and am fast needing to approach my crisis team, as I run out of options.  I am now scared to go out and I need to get supplies for myself and my Mum and Dad.  We live in a rural area.  Does anyone here know the rule around staying 'local'?

  • The de facto interpretation of 'local area' seems to be 'somewhere you can get to without needing to use public or private transport'

i.e. walking out your front door with your dogs and then walking them for 10 miles would be 'local area' but putting them in the car to drive a couple of miles to preferred walking spot wouldn't be.

  • Indeed quite correct. Although you could argue what harm are you doing driving but maybe it's to do with the fact that you could have an accident while driving?

  • It concerns the spread of the virus from any particular area. So in theory if you travel anywhere from your given living space then you can spread any risk where you go. All measures come from the desire to reduce infection risk. So it is particularly harsh on those with young children and social distancing by definition not intent. So you can only go anywhere on your own or one person in your household. i hope this helps.
