Diagnosis process for Women

Hi, I am pretty sure I am autistic however I am wondering the correct way to go about getting a formal diagnosis.  I've done a lot of research and I identify a lot with female profiles of Autism however I know it is very hard for women to get a diagnosis as they often lack some of the more typical 'masculine' traits so many things are overlooked. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a service or doctor or someone in the North West, or further if necessary, that has a good record of dealing with autistic women? I'm worried about paying and going through the entire process just to be misunderstood. I am currently waiting for NHS appointment but who knows how long that will take.

Thanks!

  • Axia ASD in Cheshire have been recommended to me multiple times due to their understanding of how ASD presents in women and I’m being assessed by them next week. It’s private rather than NHS because I couldn’t bear to wait, but you can request that your GP refer you to them specifically if you wish and state your reasons why, then it will be funded by NHS.

  • Hi, if you don't mind would you please be able to tell me how much has this cost you? I live in London and was wondering whether going elsewhere would be cheaper than getting diagnosed where I live. Plus I used to live in the North West so it'd be a nice trip back. Slight smile
