I get overloaded by sound - normally by too much chaotic sound at high frequencies ie: babies crying, screeching, too many people talking at the same time, hi pitch crackly music or pink noise.
But to reduce my overload I listen to music often on a loop or too brown noise. But it is at a very high volume, to the point others are wincing. The music to reduce stress has a lot of bass & is very repetitive so game music for shoot them up, batman vs bane, goth metal.
So is this stimming or a complex version of stimming? If it isn't, is there a term which would help me research?
I do this too, it's weird isn't it? The response to 'painful' noise is to listen to noise at a level others find painful...
I also do this when just generally stressed and it can trigger an almost orgasmic sensation in my whole body - I think this is a manifestation of ASMR.

'Stimming' is short for 'self-stimulatory behaviour' so yes, it's right
