Sensory overload and explaining / card?

I had a bit of sensory overload at an NAS branch meeting last week; due to the noise. I put my hands over my ears and someone realised what was happening and came over to comfort me.

The branch has a Facebook group and someone mentioned something about sensory overload and I said I had it group last week.

We had a meeting today and I received an apology from the branch manager for not realising what was going on. In her defence, she was dealing with someone else and was nowhere near me. She has suggested that I get a card so I can show it when I'm having sensory overload.

Any idea if NAS has a card for this? I know there's the Autism Alert card; but this isn't what I'm after. Just after something which just says something like "I am having sensory overload" and maybe something on the back stating what someone should / shouldn't do.

  • Thank you. It has been suggested that I use a "traffic light" system - green being ok, orange meaning a warning that I am struggling with something that may go red (ie, start of meltdown) and red meaning that I need help.

Now that me & someone else has mentioned issues with sensory overload, we're going to go over this at group next week.
