Who can help with my autistic son who seems very depressed and self hates worried as I don't know who he can talk too.

  1. My son has trouble socialising he gets angry with himself and hits and thumps things he keeps saying he's no good why can't I be like everyone else . He has no friends apart from online gaming chat to people he doesn't know but who have similar interests . He is easily influenced and even I advise not Todo something if he's in a chat for example he will be led.into buying games etc because other people do. He has a cousin who's slightly younger who's just started going clubbing and my lad gets frustrated because he wants Todo these things but he can't cope he says horrible things about himself wishing he wasn't here etc really upsetting . He definitely needs help but off people who understand what he's experiencing. I'm really worried and want him to be able to look forward with positive and not all negative thoughts. He needs help with looking to the future. My lads 21 and still in college at the moment. Any advice would be appreciated thanks

  • I think you might be able to find your local autism team and get them to do a home visit - they will chat to you both to come up with a plan  for him - there's always the typical funding issues and things take time, but if you can speak to the right people, they can get things moving.

They can often provide a 1 to 1 person to take him out to get used to interacting with people.   It will probably be only 1 day per week but it depends on your son's needs and the level of support they can provide.

Does he visit any local autism groups?   It might be of use to get a change of scenery and interact with different people.
