Time Scales!

I am waiting for a referral via my GP. He has told me that it will be around 6 months until I get seen and to expect a 3 hour consultation. I have also heard that it can take a year to 18 months to get a result.

What are people’s experiences of referrals and time scales?

  • I've been on the waiting list for 14 months now - every time I ask for an update on timescales, they give me a new estimate and I never hear from them within the timescale they've suggested.

I've come to terms with the fact that I just need to settle in and wait, as frustrating as that is. It was doing my mental health no good to keep asking for timescales to find they were never met.

In the meantime, try to focus on just getting to know yourself better. I've found Purple Ella's YouTube videos very helpful. You can always try out some coping strategies while you wait.

  • Wow, that’s crap! Good on you for taking a positive attitude. I’m in Berkshire. Can I ask what county you’re in?

I think as far as coping strategies goes I’m doing ok. I’ve had every therapy known to man, so have a lot of information to draw on.
