Getting benefits

hello,

I am currently waiting for news from a recent reassessment for PIP, and have just lost my ESA. I used to get both but since I am now a uni student I don't get ESA, dispite being told that if I get PIP I'll get some ESA (even if it was a reduced rate).

Now I and my mum are worried about my financial situation, and being able to afford rent with having two medications (is free if I get ESA, £18 approx a month if I dont) and printer paper and ink, course materials, food etc. I do have food in my cupboard so I'm fine for now and still get my PIP until I hear from the assesment (or whenever they make a decision).

They only asked to see my student loans, no reassessment or anything for ESA.

We're both annoyed really. Does anyone have help or advice?

  • Do you qualitfy for ESA and PIP purely from autism or from something else like anxiety/depression?

I was told by the job centre that autism makes no difference to my work search or regular universal credit. I went to the GP a few times for anxiety and depression because I had a traumatising court case where I was ridiculed for 3 years and received a criminal record. I couldnt sleep until 5am many nights and got regular headaches and an extremly fast heart whenever I thought someone was going to find out about my criminal record such as job interviews. I was also depressed because I was forced to live with my parents who always bring my down with negative comments. Even with all this I was not given any different treatment at the jobcentre or any ESA or PIP

  • It's not as simple as that, you will only get pip if your condition affects you badly enough.

I would have have thought most people with high functioning autism who went to a pip assessment, would seem quite normal and therefore not get an award. Especially if the medical professional has no knowledge of autism.

However in your case you have been on medication in the past, so you can prove it does affect you. I urge anyone to try for it, they can only say no.
