Got Netflix? Watch 'Atypical' with him... hopefully he'll identify with the lead character in terms of behaviour - this can then lead to a place where you can discuss whether he thinks it would be beneficial to him to explore the idea further.
FWIW my (NT) wife and I have a small stuffed hippo that goes with us when we travel (Hugo the Travel Hippo) on occasion I've found it easier to express things 'through' Hugo, particularly emotional stuff as it give me some 'separation' from the (painfully overwhelming) feelings...
