Passport Issue

I have autism & don't socialise (only see family). Therefore I don't know anyone eligible to confirm my identity. I emailed this issue to the passport line, but they just refer me to the rules. I'm from England & have never been abroad. I don't get their illogical solution of allowing some random to confirm who I am, but not a GP/dentist who has access to my NHS/NI number etc.

Is there any way around this? I know I can't be the only one stuck in this situation. At 38 I was hoping I could at least see another country once in my life.

  • I. Was a GP and we did hundreds of these. There was a small charge but only £2 I think. I am sure you can still ask your gp. As an autistic person myself I sometimes could not remember the person and so just used to ask to meet the, when they came in. We always had dates of consultation so could know about the 2 year rule , but sometimes I had only seen them once before and that was 10 years ago,!

    just checked and you a right that the regulations have changed and the doctor needs to say they know you well and be a friend, but many others such as travel agents are on the list as recognised professionals.

    The rules may have changed. It says it can't be a GP unless they are prepared to write that they know you well. Also my surgery say they don't do passport identity confirmation. And I haven't seen a GP for over 2 years. Mostly because I haven't left my flat in over 2 years.
