Remembering to do stuff when out of routine

I, like many people have a routine I follow most days. It helps me remember to do things and stops me getting too stressed. Ones of the things it really helps with is making sure I take my medication every day.

So when I can't follow my routine (like when on holiday), I forget the medication a lot. This last week has been particularly bad for it as I was on holiday and then took some sick days off work and now I'm visiting my parents. I'm not even sure I've achieved a 50% success rate on taking my meds.

What can  I do that would help me to do the things my routine normally helps with? Any tips for remembering my meds when I'm not at home on a normal routine?

  • I remember by having a dedicated cup used for only taking medications for.

I normally take three tablets, once a day, before breakfast.

As soon as I take the tablets with water from this dedicated cup, I leave the cup next to the tablets.

If the cup is next to the boxes of tablets,  this means I've taken them this morning.

If it isn't, it means I need to take the tablets.

I later wash the cup with the regular larger washing up, by then I'm sure I've remembered to have taken the tablets.

In this way I only take a single dose, not double doses or miss doses.
