Socially awkward

Now I'm getting older I realise sometimes where I've gone wrong with interactions. Not always but sometimes. Would you say this is an autism thing to do? (Still undiagnosed and working out why I dont fit in)

So this is how my brain works.....I'm in the Fuchsia bush looking at giant caterpillars (I know so cool Joy). Spot a neighbour, forget I'm hanging out in the bush say 'hi how you doing ' hes chatting about exciting news as he and his wife have just had a baby.then I think oh he will wonder why I'm hiding in a bush See no evil so explain myself and hold up a giant catterpilar mid conversation then chat about caterpillars! JoySee no evil it's only after when i replay conversations over in my mind I sometimes realise what a socially awkward person I am

  • Yes I do replay social interactions in my head. Much less so since I studied a good social skills book though as I feel that I 'know' how to do social interactions properly now, when I can be bothered! Who knows if I actually am doing them right but as long as I 'feel' that i am then all is well in my world! I am oblivious to the max :-) You were just being you, nothing wrong with that! It's the sort of thing that I'd do too, then realise mid way through that I might appear odd, hide the caterpillar or other object behind my back and do a not so subtle change of conversation!
