This silly forum won't let me delete my post.

This is the closest I can get to deleting this post.

It's stressful and the Autistic Society should know better.

  • Hi Ted, I had a similar problem and found some of the tips in Marie Kondo's book really helpful. Rather than try to deal with one room at a time, she suggests that you get all of the things you own, by category, in one place and go through them. The theory is that you then handle each item and only keep the things that "spark joy" .... which is a bit New Age-y for me, but I can see the point. I was flabbergasted when I saw my entire shoe collection spread out on the kitchen floor, or about 37 mugs. We can't possibly use all of these things! I got rid of a lot of stuff, although my efforts were somewhat hampered by my other half who is, simply put, a hoarder. He decreed that out of 200 DVDs there were 2 that he could let go (give someone else the pleasure of watching them!) and the rest he might want to watch again one day .... despite the fact that he hasn't watched any again in the 5 years we've lived together!

Anyway, I digress. It is a good way to be organised about going through your stuff, and having a plan and small bites to tackle at a time makes it a lot less overwhelming. I had in the past looked at it all, got completely overwhelmed and didn't know where to start and closed the door on it again. The above method certainly got me going with the task.

If you are inclined to hoard things that "might be useful one day" it might be a good idea to ask a friend to help you. Preferably one who will be brutally honest when you attempt to justify keeping things.

Alas for the decorator, I cannot advise. I have tried on numerous occasions to get quotes from decorators, and they come round, view the job, say it looks fine and then you never hear from them again. Either that or they say they can do it in a year, and then I think well I can do it in a year, the only reason for paying someone to do it is to have it done NOW!

Good luck with your efforts. It'll be worth it in the end :-) If you're anything like me, an uncluttered environment might prove a lot more restful and calming too.

  • Again, I can't delete anything properly on this ridiculous forum.

  • You should just be able to hit 'More' below the comment and then 'Delete' then (on a laptop) a menu slides in from the left with a pair of buttons, hit 'Delete'' again & you should be done

not sure if the same applies to the initial post

  • Interesting, you can select 'delete' then confirm it - including 'delete children' (on the left hand side) BUT a 'You don't have permission' message comes up on the right hand side...

Truly terrible website design... I mean, someone had to write a ticket for the devs specifying this sh... er stuff...

I mean I suspect it would actually be a better website if less thought had gone into the design... which is pretty damning!
