Autism and watching music videos?

My favourite way to listen to music is by watching music videos on YouTube. I really like the interplay between a great song and an equally great video.

In light of my recent Autism diagnosis - I have noticed something interesting. A music video is scripted to communicate the emotion of a song. As such - with the help of the video, the music, the lyrics and repeated viewings you can eventually figure out what people are thinking in the video.

These social cues are something that people with Aspergers are blind to. One thing I find fascinating is you sometimes catch a glimpse of what seems to be an incredibly rich world in which people can communicate by just a single glance, or the slight furrow of the brow or mouth.

It is quite intoxicating. Perhaps this is similar to the joy people experience when thinking about romance (something else I have no interest in).

I guess this is something that fiction does a good job of capturing as well. I mention that because I have never connected with fiction. And I always sensed that not being interested in fiction is something associated with being an Aspie.

With the above in mind - it would be interesting to see how many actors also have Aspergers syndrome? Since one would imagine that not being able to "read" people would be an insurmountable challenge for an actor to overcome when the whole purpose of acting is knowing how to use your eyes and body language to communicate?

I am just curious if others get a similar pleasure from repeatedly watching the same music video over and over?

Cheers!

I've always had a fascination with all 'art' that verges on the experimental. But more recently I have begun to wonder if a lot of the stuff I think of as weird and wonderful is actually quite easily understood/interpreted by those people who we tend to think of a neurotypical; perhaps it is only a few people like me who struggle to interpret such music and videos. But I have to say also that I'm not really at all bothered by my own confusion. I tend to just enjoy it for what it is, which is most certainly not dull and boring to me And in the case of artistes like John Cale, I sort of reckon they also revel in their own confusion. I doubt John could really ever be bothered to offer you an authoritative interpretation of his own work . And any interpretation would probably change almost daily. The title of one of his more recent EPs was 'Extra Playful'. That I suppose is his way of actually enjoying his old age. No longer does he seem quite so stressed out by the bloody awful music industry.

The thing I grew over the years to admire about David Bowie is that his work seems to hinge on the idea that every single audience will have their own non-static interpretation. I suppose I watch videos like this for much the same sort of enjoyment that many people watch soap opera. .I don't see the need to figure it all out immediately. It's much the same with movies. What the **** was Being John Malkovich about? No idea. I just enjoying actors so obviously having a blast! I doubt they really know either.
