Sounding younger than I am

Hi everyone

I have had a difficult day and in an effort to talk it through with someone I called the Samaritans.

One of the first things she said was "you sound very young, how old are you?" I told her my age (nearly 30) and she spent most of the call telling me that I sound very young and then repeating my age. It frustrated me because it was hard work to find the courage to call them but it felt like she was not listening to me, just worried that I had lied about my age to her, even though i hadn't. 

This is also something that is written in my autism report so I always assumed it was autism-related but I told her I had autism and it didn't stop her questioning. 

Sorry, this isn't important, it just annoyed me. I can't help how my voice sounds.

  • In my head I think I am about 12. I had a theory that this is due to my advanced neural development not happening and leaving me stuck with a 12 year old's brain and certainly socially I am about that, but further research and suggestions from a friend who works in such areas suggest this is not the case. However, I do feel I have the enthusiasm for learning and the inquisitive nature of a 12 year old. I also have the honesty and bluntness of a 12 year old.

    At the same time I think I have a logical wisdom possibly based on unblemished logic that means I can see things beyond most and possibly puts my wisdom age at around 90. I an also see through hype and advertising manipulation. I did find reading about mind manipulation and hypnotism very interesting.

    I things all this leads me to be perceived as very young in some areas but very old in others. I wouldn't dwell on it too much. You are you and I am how I am and that's just the way it is.
