Services in Bradford Area?

Sorry for my confusion, but my GP is trying to refer me to the BANDS service, but someone told me this had shut down? Or it wasn’t taking new referrals Becuase of the three year waiting list? I cannot wait three years I really want to go back to uni with the help I need, there is a service in Leeds and there might be a few other services around. How would I find out what services there are around me and how would I find out if they are accepting referrals or have a long waiting list. I’ve emailed both BANDS and the Leeds one LADS with no reply for over a month, I’ve called them once every two days for the past month and no one has even answered the phone :( I don’t know where to go and I don’t know what to do.

Should I just try save up and do it privately? Will the NHS listen to a private diagnosis?

  • Keep pushing your GP. You will have to go through your GP to use LADS, which will likely be your route if you are young. If you don't hear anything from your GP for a bit, book a telephone appointment and ask them where it is at. If they don't know ask them to chase it.

As an older person in your area I was referred to Manygates in Wakefield who refused an assessment due to me not ticking all the boxes with my GP. The whole process dragged on for two and a half years. I ended up going private, which gave me the answer I needed within a couple of weeks but did cost a lot. My GP said they would have a problem accepting a private diagnosis and would likely then need to put me through an NHS diagnosis for them to accept it. I am not sure how true that is, and I didn't need or want any NHS help but just needed to know for my own sanity.

Good luck with it and keep pushing.
