Forum for siblings of adults with autism

Hi, As well as having AS, I have a sister who has it too. We are both over 50 now and it has been difficult finding out about autism and Asperger's in older people. We were both diagnosed in the last 5 years - we always knew my sister had a problem, but not what it was. It came as a complete surprise to me when I realised I had it too, but we both have formal diagnosis and that has helped me understand why I have had so much difficulty at work and with relationships and friendships.

My sister and I are very different and lead different lives, with different problems, so we want to support each other and look after ourselves. The NAS has now started its Autism in Maturity project and there are practical bits and pieces on it. They have also started a forum on a website called Sibs, which is for the brothers and sisters of people with disabilities. They have a strand specifically for brothers or sisters of older adults with ASDs. I find the website really informative . It's great to hear what's going on for  youngsters and families, but it's also good to find a place where older brothers and sisters can talk to each other about our lives as the siblings of older adults with autism. http://adult-siblings-forum.sibs.org.uk/
