Celebrities who break the NT mould

Has anyone else noticed some celebrities who are apparently NT don't behave like most NTs?

I think, if I met them, I'd get on better with many celebs than people in general. Let me give some examples.

Bear Grylls - He's a bit of a show off but he always makes me laugh. Has a sense of humour and is like a big kid. I get the sense he'd be more interested in getting you to eat something weird than being bothered about your social skills.

Jim Carrey - When he's on talk shows he does all the work. The interviewer doesn't even have to try. He'll have the audience laughing and the other guests too. Some people on talk shows are kind of hard work, they don't come out of their shell easily or they're a bit pretentious, but with Carrey you get the impression he just wants you to like him, and he will make an effort.

Frank Skinner - He comes across as humble and down-to-earth to me and I imagine he'd be fairly low maintenance if you had a friendship/acquaintance with him.

Has anyone got any thoughts on why some celebrities don't seem to behave like other NTs?

  • There is a saying that says you should never meet your celebrity heroes.  Most of them are nothing like the persona they like to put across.

There are stories about some who genunely seem to be a lot kinder.  Stan Laurel for instance didn't have an ex directory telephone number and was apparently always delighted to have a chat with his fans in his later years.

Another one who seems a lot more 'down to earth' is Twiggy who apparently always has time for people.  And another one was Larry Grayson apparently.  Not having met any of them I don't know what they are/were really like.

I remember someone telling me Phil Jupitus was a bit of a pain to meet, but after a play he was in I happened across him in the foyer after everyone else had left and he was very polite, obliging and welcoming to me when I asked if he would sign my programme..  But I may have caught him on a good day.

Patrick, Lord Lichfield I met a couple of times and he was not a bit stuck up, but it was as a result of photography so it may have just been the common interest.

Don't forget most celebrities have a publicity machine and 'minders' who don't want you to get close to them.  They have an image to project and need to be 'remote' from their fans.  I don't think I could be called a fan of anyone, but there are certainly some who I think I would get on better with than others.  I certainly don't think I could get on with most stars of Hollywood.
