Can a GP refer me straight to an ASD assessment?

Hi,

Thanks to the very helpful members of this forum in regards to my my first post on this forum,  I have decided to go back to the GP and ask for another referral to see a professional for an ASD diagnosis.

As I was unsuccessful the first time round in getting through the screening process with the psychiatrist I was referred to, I was refused to be allowed to take the ASD diagnostic assessment.

What I would like to know, if any members of the community can help me, is if there is a way the GP 'fast track' me straight to the assessment without going through the screening stage? Because if so, that is something I will ask for when I go to see my GP in a couple of weeks.

Thanks

  • I think it may depend on where you are. In my region, I was told by my GP that they cannot refer directly to the local clinic and have to go through a triaging system through the mental health service. I don't like how complicated this process is either.... Maybe you can talk to your GP or call your local clinic to see if there are any other opinions available.
