Need somewhere to live

I'm in a housing association flat and I feel unsafe around some of my neighbours. They're out of order but I can't take them on, they know too many people locally and I'm not from around here. They're tougher than me too.

Not sure what to do. I've emailed my autism mental health nurse, asking if they know anyway I can stay with someone with a spare room.

When I had another housing association flat a few years ago there was a bad neighbour there too, he had a drug gang coming round who were causing disturbances in the hall.

I've lost faith in social housing, I'm pretty convinced at this point sharing a house or flat with someone is the safer and better option. Is it hard to get a room when you're unemployed? I don't feel able to work due to anxiety.

  • i sympathise with you i had to move due to horrible neighbours if your housing association is large they should be able to move you to a different place mine did

  • I'm in Merseyside. I could pursue that route but I already feel a lot of anxiety. I don't see how getting my neighbour to resent me by reporting him could help things.

He seems unstable. Often has loud and long shouting arguments with his ex-girlfriend, smokes cannabis and when he has friends around they laugh like maniacs.

  • what area are you from ? i rented from a housing association called Accent in the north west and they wouldn't stand for residents intimidating any other residents they would issue asbos and as a last resort evict, nowadays any housing association must by law have policies for dealing with unruly neighbours try going citizens advice to get help

  • Does anyone know anyone nice with a spare room?

It doesn't look like anyone is going to help me. Been in contact with various people, I'm getting passed around from pillar to post.

  • I've emailed the housing association telling them I don't feel safe in my home, and asking if anywhere else is available in my town to live.

I'm scared of going outside my front door today. I'll probably stay in all day. Last night after I got back my neighbour was outside my door with his friends making jokes about me.

  • You have a right to feel safe in your home. Speak to your housing association about your fears maybe they can transfer you to another property or area that you feel safer in.

In my opinion giving up your flat is not a good move as should anything go wrong with renting a private room local authorities may see it as you made yourself homeless and may not help again, speak to your housing association before doing anything also try citizens advice bureau
