Fun dialect quiz (Britain & Ireland)

This fun quiz asks you questions about words you typically use and how you pronounce things like 'scone'. It then suggests the area you originally came from in Britain or Ireland.

This quiz has been amazingly accurate for me and everyone else I know who has done it!

I have always loved language - one of my favourite possessions as a young person was the two volume complete Oxford English Dictionary (with magnifying glass). This quiz made me aware of how many regional terms I have never even heard of.

Thought some of you might like to have a go too. Is it right about where you grew up?

I lived there for a while, but no shading. Lovely place though.

Glasgow, and West Midlands. Miles away from each other, but dad's lot are Weegies, and I've spent most my life in the West Midlands.

it gave quite a wide area for me, but (one of ) the darkest colour bits included where I was born and have lived my whole life

Tried it again just to be sure - this time my hot spots were Cambridge (lived there throughout my childhood and teenage years) and Reading (no idea why!)

I tried it said south East hot spot Brighton and I have spent my entire life in West Sussex so very close

It identified me as being from East Anglia / South East England - I clearly haven't been influenced by NE English dialect yet, which is a shame as I love it!

Spot on for me! Hotspots were London and East Kent!

Born in one, live in the other!
