Yes I'm sorry to say that if my house burnt down I'd save my dogs first! I know that sounds really bad but its true, and this is probably the only place I'd get away with saying it!
I'm also a nurse and love my patients but still if the worst happened I'd save my dogs, does this make me a terrible person?
Well, that sounds "normal" to me .... I was watching something on TV the other day where one of the characters was handling their kids toys and looking miserable because the kid was missing, and it made me think that I suppose that's what it's like for people who feel the same way about their children as I do about my dog and 2 cats. I would definitely run into a burning building to save them, no question.
The Dogs Trust posted this picture on Twitter - it made me smile because it's so true of me! Apart from a few special people my dogs have always been my best friends.
Aw :) I have a cat that was out in the cold looking very sad who I brought home in 2008, she never shuts up !
Most cats are very chatty if you get them from a kitten and talk to them a lot. Out little moggy would meow 'hello' to us and would be very cross at the birds in the back garden - you could almost have a full converstaion with so much expression in her noises.
Oh I like cats that miaow lots, I like to talk to them!
I quite like the idea of a Siamese or a Bengal. They're supposed to be quite chatty which appeals for some reason.
I've just got a maine coon kitten last year, he's not one yet. He's BRILLIANT!
My whippet does that, push us out of bed.
Apart from all the sleeping, our Maine Coon was 100% dog. She would come for walks with us and would walk to heel and loved to play fetch. Every other dog & cat in the area was terrified of her but she was the perfect pet - never clawed the furniture.
The only bad part was when sleeping on the bed she would gradually push us to the edges so she had the middle all to herself.
She used to wake me up exactly on time by either sitting on my pillow and washing my hair (sandpapering) or by gently punching me in the face with a velvet boxing glove.
Unless you have a Maine Coon apparently .... we joke about "be more dog" with one of ours, because he goes crazy for a full-on belly rub, never claws, and once you start doesn't want you to stop! He likes a belly rub way more than the dog :-)
It was true for our Tigger too - going anywhere near his forget it zone was very dangerous indeed!

I know I'm the same, give me a dog, horse or cat and I'm there...
I find animals a lot easier to relate to than most humans (I do have my better half and also a human best friend who are happily exceptions to the rule!). I was actually quite worried about getting a dog - he's my first - but my OH said don't be daft, seeing you with the cats is like seeing a big human cat, and you'll be as easy with the dog too. Turns out he was right!
