Aspergers diagnosis process

Hi

I am 28 years old and my partner and I know I have aspergers. So I have made a self referral through NHS to get a diagnosis. So I can get the correct help. Can anybody enlighten me on the process in diagnosis and how long it takes?

Thanks

  • I was diagnosed 10 years ago via private referral paid for by my company's health insurance.

The suggestion that I may be AS came from a friend's wife who was a teacher and was used to having ASD kids in her class.

The process fro me was very quick - from that suggestion to a bit of research looking for the best people to see and then on to a GP referral to the best guy around.

I was expecting something like this.....

But in reality, we just spent time chatting about stuff - it was a pleasant hour or so.

The interview was fairly short - I'm very Asperger's so I guess it's very, very obvious if you know what you're looking for. I received the report a few days later and the phrase "clearly has Asperger's" appears lots of times.
