Suicidal 19 year old

i am new on here. My son is 19 he has overdosed twice in the last 4 months. He has been out drinking twice in the last week each time he has got into fights and has been kicked out by bouncers. The last time was Boxing Day where he ended up sleeping rough on the street as he couldn’t get home.  I feel sick with fear and dread please has anyone got any advice

    Thank you for your message it is good to hear other experiences. My son is receiving help from the gp in the form of anti anxiety and anti depressants he has had some talking therapy but finds this difficult. He has been signed off work which I don’t think helps as he needs routine. I am literally so thankful for all who have helped on here. Hibiscus

  • I just want to offer my virtual support, I have a 19 year old son in a very similar situation.  The living with this fear day after day is utterly crippling and the feelings of helplessness immense.  If you haven’t, do go to your GP, not just for your son but for you.  There are support groups out there for parents who need help too, the GP can refer you. Does your son see a psychotherapist?

    I don’t have an answer, you may have tried reaching out already to organisations, perhaps you could engage a friend of his to look out for him and support him, particularly when they are out; someone you trust to understand the severity of the situation.

    Does your son have access to telephone numbers in case he needs to call someone? I put the leaflets and numbers in my sons room.  I try to engage my son in conversation about it too, I try to emphathise and also emphasise that he will not always feel this way, things will and do change. 

    Please forgive me if I’m repeating obvious things you already do and try, my heart goes out to you and you son.
