Feeling low after assessment.

I had my assessment yesterday which took place over about 3 hours. I was asked lots of questions by 2 psychologists and another psychologist spoke to my parents, I also had an ADOS assessment. I have been really anxious about going, so I expected to feel much better once it was over. I don't know the outcome yet, I should find out in the next 2 weeks. Although the psychologists were really nice, i found discussing all the things I struggle with has left me feeling quite low and not too good about myself in general and I was wondering if other people have felt the same after the assessment?

  • Well, early days yes and no. They suspected I had ASD 18 months ago, but I had to be put on a waiting list for the real assessment. Meanwhile I have been doing that counselling thing. The actual testing was in July, I think. It took a while to get the results. And then the feedback etc.

  • So it's still early days for you then i suppose. I was warned today that I may feel a bit up one minute and down the next for a while after diagnosis.  Hopefully the counseling we make a difference for you. It can only help and like you said sometimes just talking over things can help.

  • It helps because you can talk about what frustrates you or what you find difficult to deal with. But I am now more looking for practical help, because I am so tired of myself complaining. Am going to start with a counsellor to talk about dealing with emotions (whatever that entails).

I was diagnosed a couple of months ago.
