Aspergers: Awaiting Diagnosis - Yet not making progress.

Hi,

I like many here have filled out my forms and awaiting the results of that, yet since then I feel I've not made any progress which is infuriating as i really want to. Over the years i have done much research into the matter of having Aspergers but I don't feel I've really gotten anywhere. I had to tell my Mum when I went to fill in the forms so she knows about it now - Even if it is or isn't t he case.

But it jsut all feels sort of stagnant, I actually went into the place where I was to hand in the forms and had a chat with them briefly, they did mention that I couldn't really go to their weekily when a diagonis is pending.

I jsut don't know where to go with this and considering I have to wait from 1-3 years I'm just feeling a bit down about it in general.

    What progress would you like to make?  Or where do you feel you need to make progress?

    My partner and I had to wait about 18 months each from referral to seeing the guys who did our diagnosis.  I don't recall from whom, but we were able to get an idea of how long the wait would be.  That meant we had a rough idea of how long we would be waiting.  We then contacted them every 3 - 4 months or so to make sure we hadn't missed a letter or anything and confirm we were still on the list and hadn't been accidentally forgotten.  The team you will see will only have limited resource/funding, and they are probably trying to get through the referrals as quickly as they reasonably can.  So unless you can afford a private referral it's a case of just being patient unfortunately.

    But while that's all going on, that doesn't stop you investigating things and trying to move stuff on yourself.  In some respects, the diagnosis is just a self-awareness and confirmation of label thing.  In and of itself it won't change anything, so you might as well start looking at what you think you need to change for yourself now.
