Functioning Difficulties: Reading Difficulty, Unable to Align AWeather Reports

Hi,

I have a bit of an issue and i don't know if it is relative to me thinking I am on the spectrum but just wanted to through it out there.

I have always struggle to read books, which is a great shame as i love movies and video games for their storytelling. When it comes to reading I feel I read a sentence, form an image in my head and then go to read the next line which has more detail - detail that contradicts what I have already thought up and then I find myself getting in a muddle. I don't know if there is a term for this but was just curious to see if anyone else has this.

Also, I've noticed i cannot comprehend the weather forecast - I can't seem to be able to align the temperature to a figure and have my brain click and understand it. Just another odd issue I thought I'd throw out there to see if it's just me.

  • I wonder if maybe you are a "picture thinker". This is something that's relatively common for autistic people - manipulating ideas in your mind in terms of images, rather than words. As with many autistic traits, there's a spectrum between the two extremes; I'm the opposite, very biased to using words because I struggle to conjure pictures in my mind's eye at all (aphantasia). The famous autistic animal behaviourist Temple Grandin is a well known picture-thinker, so you may find this video of her describing it worth a watch...
