From Diagnosis to Acceptance

Good morning.

My mind will never forget the words "spikey profile".

I had taken a client for an assessment, and she asked me to sit on a separate computer, and do the test as well.

And I was advised that my "spikey profile" was one un-recognisable to the assessor, and she sent me for more discussions and assessments.

My diagnosis was eventually named as Non Verbal Learning Disability, and it is like its title, words convey meaning for me, and facial expression, sarcasm, and irony mean much less.

Over the last 12 years I have found my solace in expressing myself, and have written two books called My Moments, Myself, and Color of Woman 2018 Initiate book.... both talk of my journey and my greatest wish is that I model for others that Autism is a blessing and a challenge.

I still have muddles, don't get me wrong, one current challenge is driving home from work, in these darker evenings, with the bright lights of the other traffic obscuring the side-walks and curvature of the roads.

and the noises of escalators; photocopiers, and other people's voices as I work....

May you have the courage to face the challenges and good days.
