Stop Stimming

So today i had an appointment with a so called proffesional in the legal service i was extremely aggitated and anxious and when i sat down in front of his desk i immediately started stimming ( mine is i rub my right hand on my left hand ) he leaned over and said "stop that" which i obviously can't when i didn't he threw his arms up and said "you need to stop doing that now or i simply can't help you " even though he had all my mental health history in front of him he accused me of faking it ( i caught a bus to my appointment and apparently you can't catch a bus if you're autistic ) he made me even worse i have never felt so belittled i went straight home got my razor blade out and shredded my arms... i complained to my social care worker who rang him but no surprise he lied and said he never said that and he was just trying to challenge me to make an effort ....the state of mental health in this country is just a F%$@ing joke it really is no wonder people kill themselves rather than go through all this crap ive had my first assessment last week so im not officially diagnosed but the guy who did my assessment said he was going to push me through quickly as an emergency case he more or less said in his opinion i was definitely on the spectrum but apparently you can stop being autistic according to the P%&@K i saw today

  • Sorry to hear about that, Giddy, that's a horrible situation to be in; I hope the worst has passed.

he was just trying to challenge me to make an effort

Even if this were true, he has still admitted wrongdoing. The responsibility of a legal service worker is to help you with legal matters. He may be within his rights to ask you about how your disability affects your daily living or entitlement to benefits etc. However, it is not for him to determine your diagnosis, nor to decide upon or implement therapeutic interventions ("motivating" you), regardless of whether they would be appropriate or not (not, in this case, obviously!) Implying that you may have been "not making enough effort" is potentially defamation, which your social worker may be able confirm from their phone call to him, giving you better grounds for a complaint.

  • that's a good point im not letting it go im really annoyed at what he did
