Hello everyone

Hello everyone, I’m new here. I was in need of joining a forum to speak amongst people who get it and the society opened my eyes to this one. So this will be my first post!

Recently been going through a major turn in my life. Along with ASD I have physical difficulty which seems to be worsening. The turn is that I’m being a little bit more self aware. I don’t know if anybody else struggles with recognising bodily issues until somebody else points out that you should see a doctor?

Since becoming more self aware I’ve bren trying to find methods to help myself. But I’m finding a major challenge starting new things. For instance, starting different forms of art to be able to express myself. But I get a kind of physical reaction of disgust and repulsion. I have always had an issue with stationary and textures of material irking me a lot and I suppose the messiness. So I believe art materials brings this out in me.

Currently I’m just comfortable with drawing because it causes less repulsion I think. I’m wondering if anybody has some words on how I can get over this? I hope this easy to understand!

  • Hello and welcome. I hope you find stuff on interest here and feel free to join in wherever you like.

Yes, I think what you say is easy to understand. I think there will be many people here who relate to the lack of bodily awareness. I've been lucky with my health, but have vaguely similar things with other people pointing out my appearance (worn clothes), posture, and I'm not good at judging my own emotions. Well done on gaining self-awareness; it may make it easier to work out why you do or don't do the things you do.

Starting new things is more about initiative for me than a physical repulsion with the materials. Maybe you can just concentrate on enjoying drawing or improving? Or just take on one new thing gently where you want to produce something.

By the way, you may want to give yourself a nickname on this forum, to distinguish yourself from all the other NAS3nnnns. To do so, click on the round button up the top right of the screen, then choose 'Profile' and then 'Edit Profile'.
