Does anyone attend NAS branch meetings?

On Thursday, I was diagnosed with Autism. I was also told that there are meetings hosted by NAS in my area, for people on the spectrum.

Does anyone attend them? What are they like? I emailed someone over the weekend and was told that whilst it's a support group, they won't offer counselling. It's more meeting people with the same issues.

  • The monthly 'social group' meetings held by my local NAS branch are, for me, a complete waste of my time. The range of 'abilities' is far too wide.

I, however, was also put in touch with a local charity that also runs a monthly social evening for people, like myself, who were diagnosed late in life, with Asperger's, and that's much better - because we're all on about the same 'level' we can actually have conversations (which almost never happens at the NAS branch social group meetings).

I'm of course not allowed to ask, or give, personal details like where in the country you, or I, live, but, I will say this - if you live in or around an East Anglian university city that's known for it's rowers, punts, and christmas carol services, then look up a charity called Red-to-Green.

(and, @the Mods: I really don't care if people now know that I might live somewhere in, near, or around, Cambridge!)
