New diagnosis

Hi all,

I have recently been diagnosed as autistic and also having OCD at 30 years old.

I feel very emotional about it at the moment (can't stop crying) and would be very grateful for any advice on how to come to terms with my diagnosis please.

I also work full time and was wondering what other people find helpful in terms of work adjustments?

Many thanks,

Martina

  • Hi, Martina.
Maybe I shouldn't comment here since I don't actually know whether I'm autistic or not. However, I would say you’re probably better off knowing you are autistic because this knowledge should help you understand more about how you react in certain situations and, hopefully, allow you to manage your life better. Not knowing why you feel a certain way about experiences can be really frustrating, and it can leave some people feeling like they've failed for not reacting as they think they should. The big problem, in my opinion, is that lacking insight into what makes you tick can pressure you to try to be like other neurotypical people, which often leads to disappointment.
