homeschooling

My son, 13, and diagnosed with Childhood Autism has always been homeschooled by myself and his dad.

I would be happy to be in contact with any other parents homeschooling.

  • Hi munchkin-mama,

As well as the replies you might get from other parents considering this option, just wanted to point you in the direction of the NAS article on home schooling. It may help answer some of your questions.

    You can find it here:

  • Hello

I have an 8 year old who is in mainstream, we are struggling to get an acceptable csp for him just now as the bullying he endures at playtime is escalating and becoming more violent. The school are not tackling at all perferring to sweep it under the carpet and blame his lack of social skills! Home schooling is something we have toyed with but I dont have a clue where to get the curriculum and wht happens at high school age? So far I feel as though mainstream is not working and I fear for what happens at high school. Schools just dont understand the complexities and dont want to invest time effort or resources into asd kids. Any help welcome thanks

  • Hi birdalone,

I have spoken to many parents who homeschool their autistic child. Most of them do it as a last resort because their child was learning nothing in the school imposed on them by their LA.

I am full of admiration for parents who follow this daunting path, often making great personal sacrifices so that their autistic child can attain their full potential.

I am sure there are many parents frustrated with their child's educational provision who would like to hear more about homeschooling.

How do you get started and what are the pitfalls?

Do you use an internet school?

Are you part of a local homeschooling support group?

It would be great to hear about your experiences.
