Circadin / Melatonin not working

hi. I wonder if anyone has found the 2mg Circadin doesn't have an effect? Paediatrician said we can double the dosage to 4mg but that doesn’t work. Lovely daughter is still up and down stressing about getting to sleep. When we doubled the dosage the Paediatrician said sometimes Melatonin doesn’t work and if that’s the case they may withdraw it !!! I’m horrified at this, my daughter needs to get to sleep but what am I to do if the medicine isn’t working ?

Juat wonder if anyone else has experience of circadian 4mg not working ? How did doctors deal with this situation ?

thanks in advance x

  • I didn't know I was autistic until I was an adult so am unsure of the child route, however, I struggle to sleep naturally. I currently take quetiapine, which is an antipsychotic drug, as its the only sedative that works for me. I have tried a number of other prescribed sleeping tablets, including heavy doses of antihistamine, but they did nothing for me. I also put lavender on my pillow at night as it helps to relax me as I doze off.

As I'm currently heavily pregnant I'm trying to nap in the day as I'm exhausted. I use a diffuser to fill my room with a nighttime essential oil blend and lie under a weighted blanket. I still really struggle to nap but it does make me feel a lot more relaxed.

I've heard really good things about Glow Lullaby so have invested in their essential oils and am buying her a stargazing projector to use as part of her sleep routine

  • Can I ask how you are getting on with quetiapine in relation to it helping with your sleep? Also how long have you been taking it?

I ask because I was prescribed it for insomnia also but I am finding that the longer I've been on it the less effective it is, I only take 25mg but if Im really struggling to sleep I will up it to 50, I've been taking it 5 years now. Dont get me wrong it does still help just not as much as it did, its probably like any drug, Ive probably now got a tolerance to it.

  • I've been taking it for around 3 years now. I started off on 150 but have reduced my prescription to 50mg as that's the lowest I can go and still get a good nights sleep. I have upped it to 75mg now I'm heavily pregnant and sharing the prescription with my unborn baby.
