Not receiving e-mail notifications?

Am I the only one who is not receiving notifications when someone has posted to a thread that they are subscribed to?

  • I seem to have caused some confusion, for which my apologies. There's nothing wrong with posting new reports to this older thread. However, in everything I say here, I am conscious that my messages could be read my various others, in addition to those contributors to whom I am immediately responding. For some here, my point that this thread is much older than the system (and therefore earlier posts aren't that relevant to current issues) will have been obvious. For others, perhaps it was worth saying - I hope so.

The best time to start a thread is when a new problem occurs. This tends to mean that threads are started by those reporting the issue. Of course, if there's already a relevant thread, it makes sense to add to that.

In spite of any areas where we could see possible improvements, I remain encouraged by the increasing volumes of messages, and therefore by the increasing level of support that people here are able to give each other.

    Regards

  • Thank you DC, your support is always appreciated.

”we may get there in the end,”

uhm? We might unless it is nested in which case we may never get to the END, as such Lol.

  • Hear Hear!

...In support of Mr LoneWarrior's Post, there. I am tired, yet also still know what I am about, too... even at Two in the Morning...!

Please and Thanks again to WebPM. We respect you, I keep saying... however... etc. etc. newthread. etc. newthread. etc. etc... keep on, we may get there in the end, as it were.

  • “Start a new FEEDBACK  thread”Surely DC that would be far to simple a solution?

Dear WebPM California posted on here as the title is” not receiving e mail notifications”,

I imagine he did as suggested and did a search to find a place to comment on issues with emails specifically!.

no one has actually referred directly to any of the older posts. We merely had no main place to post our concerns so using the main title seems appropriate. You did suggest elsewhere that we should self manage if possible, you divided many posts and placed them here there and everywhere, many taken out of context, even titling one that appeared to be from a member but not so.

I have not entered a search for issues concerning emails myself but as the search results  are usually pretty random at best I wonder what pops up first?

so here we are in a thread concerning emails,as You suggested a different heading for each issue instead of one main place as previously started by NAS,

It has been suggested many many times for you or a moderator to start a thread specifically stating that any issues regarding ########## should be posted here, giving a specific topic issue for each. It could also advise that it remains on topic to save confusion, and stating clearly to only reply to the lead heading so that all replies are in order of date and time not nested.

why we the users should start new threads is beyond me unless a new issue arises previously unreported.

One thing you may be able to answer for me is, I still receive emails from NAS which is fine by me, they are frequent and seem to know who I am by using my user name within them, so why do I not receive notifications of new posts to threads?

I wish you well in your endeavours, you are trying I know and for that I thank you very much, forgive my little rant I have literally given up trying to find answers to any issues I have,

I come here to find answers regarding autism and to help others if I can, I am autistic and without this kind place I think I would struggle .I find great support when I need it, This site has literally changed my life, If I could help to fix this forum I would,

much respect to you kind sir, x()x

  • There's a possible confusion about the seven years. As many of our longer-standing contributors know, we replaced the entire platform for the Community last June - indeed some of the feedback has been about that new system. Since the mail is now coming from a different system at a different provider, using different technology, any problems that were happening seven years ago, on the previous system, are not likely to be relevant today.

I do not know what you mean by "the seven years". To consider all of what I quote, there, I may misunderstand it...?

Are you telling us off for posting problems about a now defunct-system, yet at the same time acknowledging our also posting about the new system/platform/forum/whatever...?

I have, perhaps, a solution to this confusion which many, many of us have been suggesting for a very very long time, which I shall try to put politely...

...GET NAS THEMSELVES TO START A NEW "FEEDBACK" THREAD!!

  • This is what I respond.

I have, not at all, these troubles concerning EMail myself, yet I remind others who may not know of this Thread, to Post troubles here as WebPM said.

Can anyone with these troubles please interact with Mr.WebPM, please?. I cannot, because I do not know what much of this is about...!

I think that this is a very very good answer, and I Thank WebPM for it. But I would not know...?

However... there is a part of Mr WebPMs reply here, which I shall (try to) address in a separate Post, next.

  • There's a possible confusion about the seven years. As many of our longer-standing contributors know, we replaced the entire platform for the Community last June - indeed some of the feedback has been about that new system. Otherwise, unfortunately my view has not changed from what I said a couple of months ago, a few messages earlier in this thread. I think we have done everything that we can to ensure that we are sending the notifications. There was a problem at one point, that stopped anyone getting notifications for some days, but we corrected that (resulting in a bit of a flood as the queued notifications were sent out).

However, the way that email works on the Internet is that it is passed from server to server. Once we have sent messages, we have relatively little control over whether they are delivered. Usually they are, of course, which is why most people are indeed receiving notifications. Your individual Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and other mail-system operators will, however, take their own steps to protect their customers from the massive volumes of spam flying around the system, and sometimes genuine messages get caught up in those. Sometimes also there are other issues, but I believe that anti-spam measures are the most likely ones here.

There is little that we can do to investigate, because those ISPs are likely to take the view that their delivery of mail to their customers is not something that they would discuss with a third party, (especially a third party who just wants to get more mail delivered to those customers!) For what it's worth, I've got a similar problem at home with an unrelated forum, where it seems that notifications arrive for a day or two, and then dry up. If I change email addresses, they arrive again for a bit, and then the same happens.

The only suggestions I can make are:

    1. Try a different email address if you have one (by editing your My Account settings via the link at the top of the page)
    2. Approach your ISP with as much detail as you can (examples of previous notifications that did arrive, if you have them, will help)

Individual messages, of course, might contain words that cause them to be identified wrongly as spam, so check your spam/junk folder. If no notification messages at all are arriving, it's more likely to be something to do with wrongly identifying our notifications in general as some kind of bulk mailing that should be blocked.

  • Glad Tidings to Mr. LoneWarrior!...

Please do not be so negative - being sarcastic and/or seeming negative is my department! (Like Jeremy Clarkson!) (I am not like Ellie or Spotty or Missy, sorry...)

If you may, Sir, please re-post what you posted upon the "improvements" Thread this day... again upon this Thread. (Aim it at the Starter, not here.) Post it Twice, is what I mean, there.

Fair Play and good stuff to you.

     And of coarse

    "Course".

  • Hi DC is it actually worth typing any issues in here, spreading all the issues into various places just makes it harder to find the right place to say anything.

And of coarse ignoring is the way it goes, maybe we should have bets on how many days before this gets any attention?

    take car my friend,

    x()x. Slight smile

  • This is the Thread designated by WebPM to write to, concerning EMail Notifications, about One Month ago...

Yet this Thread was begun by "AspieMum" over 7 Years ago...

Anyone reading, who still has such troubles, WebPM (not NAS) said to Post here...

(Sarcasm:...This way, NAS can ignore us more than once...??)

  • I've only just noticed this thread. I used to get notifications when i first joined the forum and then without altering my settings, they stopped. This makes it hard to find replies from people that i would like to answer, particularly on long complicated threads. I do still get some emails from the site, even some notifications sometimes but not all. There seems to be no logic to it.

  • Still no email notifications, I do however recieve many emails direct from NAS promoting events and news items, I would assume the sender address to be the same, checked and rechecked my settings and all are checked as accept, a tick in every box, I do not expect anything to be done about this, strange I had one massive influx of emails when  the settings were “ fixed” and then nothing after them..

  • I regret that I am not sure what more we can do about this. I would suggest that you contact your email provider, including a copy of the last notification that you received. The problem that we had previously involved the system for sending email notifications stopping entirely, so that the notifications became queued on the Community server, but were never sent. That has not happened again - firstly, others are receiving notifications, and secondly, we have put an alert in place so that we would know quickly if the issue were to recur.

However, emails are a complex area. Some estimates suggest that 60% of global email is spam. I have heard higher estimates. Faced with this, email providers do many different things to avoid the costs of processing all those messages, and the nuisance caused by delivering them to you. Putting some messages in a spam/junk folder is just the last line of defence, and not the whole story. They may for example refuse altogether to accept mail from some sources, irrespective of its contents (think of declining delivery of a package without even opening it, just because of the source address on the outside).

If I am correct, then the feedback from you that messages of this type are useful should help your provider to refine their systems - but you'll realise that they probably get a large number of such customer complaints, and have limited resource to deal with them.

I can see no reason why we would be sending notifications to others and not to you, and you have checked your settings. Therefore, I do believe that it is the process of delivering mail, after it has left us, that is the issue - unless of course there has been a change in your email address, but that seems unlikely.

  • The very fact there are now four separate threads pointing out variouse issues with this forum is proof enough things need looking into as to just what kind of service is being offered,?

  • Hi WebPM I am not receiving email notifications, I have checked my settings and all are ok, no spam in any folders, no junk, and no email updates/ notifications since  28:02:2018,

last email notification received was this one,

  • Thank you WebPM, just had 11 email notifications,

also the views count has suddenly shot up on most threads,

just picture issues, especially why no matter what size or file extension when in PM area just doesn’t work.

If anyone can tell me in simple terms how to check my picture file size on an iPad tablet I would be grateful.

I have looked around for an app to resize them but not yet took the plunge.

Doesn’t answer why sometimes it will allow an image but then the same image won’t  Upload another time?

The sudden vanishing replies when still typing must be as you say a time out issue, If the forum thinks you are inactive it cuts you off in order to minimise and speed up access to others,

Looking good so far. Thank you.

  • We have fixed the issue with email notifications. This will have resulted in a flood of messages, as your outstanding notifications were delivered. That in turn might be why some of you (including me) got duplicates. Please post here if that continues to happen in the coming days.

I agree that your sign-in times out too soon, and that on many systems it would last days or weeks, whereas here it's less than an hour. We have plans for that, but it's a fairly central part of our systems.

  • I just had 11 come through all at once! Proir to that I hadnt had any for days.

Separate problem; I spend my life signing in to these forums! I have the 'keep me signed in' box ticked but I still have to sign in at least once a day, often 2 or 3 times. Gets tiring after a bit, why wont it remember? I'm on many forums for this and that but this is the only one that has this level of amnesia!

  • Just to confirm that we are looking into this. The effect appears to be more widespread than I had originally realised, apologies.

I should probably point out that, according to the dates on messages, this thread is seven years old, and was migrated from the old system along with the rest of the message archive last year, so the earlier messages are not really relevant to the current issue Grinning

However, it's really helpful to have a relevant thread title like this, when spotting problem reports.

    Regards

  • I received two notifications last night, well early hours this morning, both from Monday, 26:02:2018.( See new update below)

one was a PM notification and the other was,” Are there any other women here?” Thread.

    so two is a start.

    ()

(ok,,,just went back and checked, they say on the email heading. Monday, but when opened they say 25:02:2018, which is Sunday?

so a long delay before sent and then only actually arrive on the 27:02:2018?

All very confusing.and well short of all the threads I requested updates from.
