hiyas,
has anyone considered a basic chat room,or setting up a chat room for asd/as and parents n carers elsewhere, so people that are online at the same time can have general chit chat with each other? would take just a few people willing to be admins within the chat room, maybe only have it open at certain times,,but could come and have conversation or blow off steam if we need to.... just a thort ! x
here is the link for ASDirect which is global and u can chat all day. The sign up process can be slow because of the demand of people trying to get in each day.....

it is well moderated and has diifferent areas and emotional help as well --- sounds like u will love it
There are a few autism chat rooms out there, but they tend to be a bit dead. A lot of autistic people talk slowly and that seems to linclude type talking. I am autistic but actually talk and type quite fast and it was a bit frustrating to be honest. Plus all chat rooms however hard you try attract trolls and espeically health based ones where they think people might be vunrable, althouhg some sites are good at removing trolls this is smething to bare in mind. I think these chat sites can be good, but they take more work to moniter and look after than you may think
hey im 20 years with autism
Yes that seems great honestly
that’s a really good idea!
just create a new thread "20 years old would love to make some close friends"

Yeah, perfectly understand. Let us know if you come up with some other ideas though :)
oh yer, soz, didnt even enter my head about personal details getting out thro another channel.. was just trying to find a simple way that woudlnt take too much setting up, just running/adminning ... < gets thinking cap on again ! x
Hiya AmethhystGlow
I'm afraid one of the limitations of what we're able to offer through this Community, right now, is that we can't allow people to share personal information to get in touch with each other outside of this service.
I understand people will find that frustrating but this really is a big step for the NAS and it's something we've only been able to move forward with after some strongly debated risk assessment.
So, although it might seem a bit irritating on our part I'm afraid we can't allow people to share information to meet in a seperate chat service. It would undermine our policy on people sharing personal information.
As a result I've edited out your message. I absolutely understand where you're coming from but it's not something that we can promote at this stage. If you'd like to look at something more formal then it's certainly something we could offer a link to through the 'other communities' area.
I'm really sorry, I hope you can understand our perspective even if you might not necessarily agree with it.
hey again,,,

i agree and like the idea very much :)
Great suggestion. I'm sure there would be a lot of demand for a chat service, here or elsewhere.
It may be worth looking at some of the other communities we link to, to see if they offer anything similar. I know that Wrong Planet offer a chat service and whilst we can't guarantee the quality of another website's service I'm sure it'd be worth checking out.

As to whether the NAS could consider setting up a chat room, it's something we can start to think about in the long term. For us, launching the Community with this forum has been a big step and it's something we'll need to focus on in the short term (just the problems with email updates shows how many issues we'll need to fix and improve!).
But definately a great idea and should anything be set up independantly do let us know about it so we can explore linking to the service.
i'd like to see this implemented too
