Regime change in Venezuela

Trump has bombed and captured Venezuela and taken it's president to America to stand trial for frug smuggling or terrorism or something like that. He says America is going to be running the country from now until a new government can be elected. One friendly to the USA no doubt.

I think this is all about oil personally and havving control of Venezuela's huge mineral resources, for someone who didn't want to have any more foreign adventures Trump seems to be pretty gung-ho about meddling in other countries. I wonder if Iran will be next? He's made threatening noises before and now that the Iranian people are protesting against their government I wonder if he'll be able to resist?

Does the world need more conflict on another continent? I don't think so, I think this will destabilise the world even more, not that I support Maduro and his cronies, but I think an outright attack like this is dangerous, I wonder how the rest of South America is feeling about it, do they feel any safer or more in danger?

Both Venezuela and Iran are pally with Russia, could this all be a way of getting at Putin and what will his reaction be to some of his allies being taken over by the USA? Looks like 2026 has got off with the wrong sort of bangs.

  • I think the Danish PM is right and if the US takes over Greenland it will be the end of NATO, I think the same about Canada too. The stupid thing about Greenland is that theres a treaty between them that America can have military bases there and can have access to its mineral wealth. After WW2 America had 16 military bases on Greenland, after the end of the Cold War it shut 15 of them, the treaty allows them to reopen them and trade.

    ***************************

America has been interferring in the south for years, has it ever occured to it that they might of been better off leaving alone? Or that they may have helped to create the Narco states and general instability?

  • The US has a long track record of organizing coups in south America to control countries to benefit US companies such as United Fruit for example. I agree, this will cause more issues with the breach of international law. It is worrying when Trump and his cabinet make announcements on taking over Greenland, a sovereign state.

  • Trump’s illegal actions in mineral rich Venezuela have created a pattern which reflects his narcissist thinking and disdain for the rest of the world.

He attempted to gain mineral resources in Ukraine.

He wants Greenland for its minerals and accessible location.

He wants Canada because according to Trudeau, he is after its mineral reserves.

He uses tariffs in an attempt to reduce China’s dominance of its mineral resources because he prefers to use aggression rather than economic cooperation.

Trump wants world glory and power and he wants the US to have control of the world’s resources. Unless the world resorts to Trump’s own tactics, the only solution can come from the US public who could vote for a President who would care about their own country and the rest of the world.

  • 3 years? Oh boy you’re in for a surprise when he runs a third time.

  • The Americans will stay it has the highest amount of oil (proven) of anywhere on the planet.

  • I don't think many in the USA are that happy about it either. They may be glad Maduro's gone, but what will end up in his place? It could turn into another blood bath with different cartels opperating.

Iran has been a friend of Venezuela too, along I think with North Korea and Russia, this could have far greater consequenses than the Trump tea imagine. I can't see how they are going to run things without having boots on the ground which Trump promised he wouldn't do, he's not entirely popular with his MAGA base so they could give him all sorts of trouble.

  • I hope it does, although he'll probably be so disapointed he'll take pot shots at the Nobel Committee.

I think Greenland would be a harder target than Venezuela, it would put him directly at loggerheads with Europe and NATO, I know he dosen't have much time for either organisation, but it would anger Russia and they could be a far bigger problem and I think it could push other nations more towards China.

I agree that the Venezeulan VP is between a rock and a hard place, I think Trump is going to try and asset strip the country with his "panel" of people who he says is going to "help" run the country.

  • Might dash any 'hopes' as a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize too!

  • An illegal act of aggression and the decapitation of a regime do not equate to being able to run a country. He is clearly hoping that Maduro's VP will have been so intimidated that she is willing to cooperate with the Trump regime. At the same time, he sends a clear message to every other country in the Americas: 'Do what King Trump wants . . . or else!'

If this is all about US control of natural resources, I fear the next natural target is Greenland. Of course, it may be nothing more than Trump opting for an easy and spectacular short-term win abroad in the hope of diverting attention from economic problems at home.

  • The greatest peacemaker ever! <cough>

Anything to distract from the Epstein files I guess - can't have people thinking the Dementure Donnie is a kiddie fiddler after all.

To think we have 3 more years of this ahead - oh dear!
